What is Self Cleaning Glass?
Self-cleaning glass is a specific type of glass that has been designed to clean itself. A special coating allows the glass to self-clean, meaning you don’t have to!
How does it work?
Self-cleaning glass has a very thin coating applied, so thin that it will not appear visible to the naked eye. It has no major effect on the amount of light that enters the room. There is a two stage cleaning process that works hand in hand to provide the best clean possible. The first step is through photocatalysis.
This is a chemical reaction that is triggered by light. This chemical reaction helps to break down any dirt that has been embedded into the glass, making it easier to come away. The second step is through hydrophillia. Glass generally causes water to bead and run down in streaks, which can leave dirty marks. The coating on the window causes the water to behave differently, making the water run down in a sheet rather than drops.
